Overground gait training using virtual reality aimed at gait symmetry

چکیده

This study investigated if training in a virtual reality (VR) environment that provides visual and audio biofeedback on foot placement can induce changes to spatial temporal parameters of gait during overground walking. Eighteen healthy young adults walked for 23 min back forth an instrumented walkway three different conditions: (i) real (RE), (ii) (VE) with no biofeedback, (iii) VE biofeedback. Visual while stepping footprint targets appearing along straight path encouraged participants walk asymmetrical step length (SL). A repeated-measures, one-way ANOVA, followed by pairwise comparison post-hoc analysis Bonferroni's correction, was performed compare the difference (SLD), stance phase percentage (SPPD), double-support (DSPD) between early late phases all walking conditions. The results demonstrate efficacy system patterns. Participants temporarily adapted pattern immediately post-training VE. Induced asymmetries persisted significantly later RE. Asymmetry significant (SLD) but not (SPPD DSPD). paper demonstrates method unilateral using novel VR tool. proof-of-concept validation be conducted directly could potentially provide new treatment hemiplegic or

ZeroG: overground gait and balance training system.

A new overground body-weight support system called ZeroG has been developed that allows patients with severe gait impairments to practice gait and balance activities in a safe, controlled manner. The unloading system is capable of providing up to 300 lb of static support and 150 lb of dynamic (or constant force) support using a custom-series elastic actuator. The unloading system is mounted to ...

Using mixed and virtual Reality systems for Gait- Rehabilitation

Neurological deficits resulting from spinal cord lesions, stroke and traumatic brain injuries frequently affect walking functions. Since the ability to walk influences the participation in social and economic life, its restoration through rehabilitation plays an important role in improving a patients quality of life [1]. Nowadays gate therapy is mostly achieved through electrically driven gait ...

JRRD at a Glance ZeroG: Overground gait and balance training system

We present a new overground body-weight support (BWS) system called ZeroG that allows patients to practice gait, balance, and postural activities in a safe, controlled manner. The system can provide static or dynamic BWS, and because it is mounted overhead on a custom track, patients can practice walking on flat surfaces, rough terrain, and stairs. In addition, ZeroG uses an active trolley syst...
